Paul Farrington

Paul trained as a classical tenor then worked as a musical director and choral conductor before now specialising for over 30 years in working with the solo voice.

He trained and studied with Jo Estill, and was amongst the first in the world to be licensed as a Vanguard by Jo herself.

Paul is uniquely qualified as a Specialist Vocal Coach, was for 20yrs Clinical Vocal Consultant at University Hospital Birmingham, and is currently an Associate with a number of Harley St ENT practices. Having taught at the Royal Academy of Music, Birmingham Conservatoire and Royal Welsh Conservatoire, he is now Vocal Health & Technique Consultant to the Jette Parker Young Artists’ Programme at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and vocal coach to some of the world’s foremost opera and concert performers.


Paul was a core member of the Samling Foundation Masterclass team from 1997-2012, and participated in many of Samlings Outreach projects with schools in the North East. He has worked with the casts of numerous West End musicals and given live broadcast masterclasses on Spanish TV’s ‘Operación Triunfo’ (Pop Idol).

Internationally recognised as one of the foremost vocal trouble-shooters, he is in demand for workshops and teaching worldwide.

Paul has led masterclasses with organisations as varied as the Choir of New College Oxford, BABS & LABS, the Barbershop Associations in the UK, as well as presenting courses and workshops throughout Europe, Asia & Australasia & has also been an artist in residence at Queens University Belfast.

Paul has been a guest tutor with the Ulster Youth Choir and has been vocal consultant to the Charles Wood Summer School in Armagh, Northern Ireland since 2001.

He has an open invitation to work with the young artists at the Metropolitan Opera and the Juilliard School of Music in New York as well as with Frankfurt Opera, and has just returned from his seventh visit to the New National Theatre in Tokyo as resident artist. In December Paul will make his 10th visit as Principal Tutor at the New Zealand Opera School.
Last Autumn Paul took up a new post as Professor Emeritus at the Operahogskolan in Stockholm and has been invited to lead a 5 year research project on vocal pedagogy & it’s application in teaching. He continues his role as Principal Vocal coach at Goteboergs Operan Sweden since 2006.

Future engagements for 2014 include, guest coach with the Danish Radio Choir, teaching and workshops in Florida, Berlin, Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore & Hong Kong & Tokyo, and will present a Seminar for The University Hospital St Pau in Barcelona on Vocal remediation for singers.
