Paul Farrington

Paul trained as a classical tenor then worked as a musical director and choral conductor before specialising for 25 years in working with the solo voice. He trained and studied with Jo Estill and was amongst the first in the world to be licensed by her.

Paul is uniquely qualified as a Specialist Vocal Coach, was for 20yrs Clinical Vocal Consultant at University Hospital Birmingham, and is currently an Associate with a number of Harley St ENT practices. Having taught at the Royal Academy of Music (RAM), Birmingham Conservatoire and Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, he is now Vocal Health & Technique Consultant to the Jette Parker Young Artists’ Programme at the Royal Opera House and vocal coach to some of the world’s foremost opera and concert performers.


Paul has been a core member of the Samling Masterclass team since 1997 and participates in Samling’s Outreach projects with schools. He has worked with the casts of numerous West End musicals and given live broadcast masterclasses on Spanish TV’s ‘Operación Triunfo’ (Pop Idol).

Internationally recognised as one of the foremost vocal trouble-shooters, he is in demand for workshops and teaching worldwide.

Paul has led masterclasses with organisations as varied as the RAM, with the Choir of New College Oxford, BABS & LABS, the Barbershop Associations in the UK, as well as presenting courses and workshops in Madrid, Helsinki, Stockholm, Gran Canaria & Barcelona He has been an artist in residence at Queens University Belfast and recent engagements include masterclasses in Barcelona, Hannover and Milan. Paul is visiting vocal consultant to Göteborgs Operan Sweden.

Paul has been a guest tutor with the Ulster Youth Choir and has been vocal consultant to the Charles Wood Summer School in Armagh, Northern Ireland since 2001.

He has an open invitation to work with the young artists at the Metropolitan Opera and the Juilliard School of Music in New York as well as with Frankfurt Opera, and has just returned from his fourth visit to the New National Theatre in Tokyo as resident artist. In December Paul will make his 7th trip as Principal Tutor at the New Zealand Opera School. 
Last Autumn Paul took up a new post as Professor Emeritus at the Operahogskolan in Stockholm and is a regular visitor there.
 

His latest project is as vocal coach to the cast of the movie ‘Quartet’ which is being Directed by Dustin Hoffman & includes Dame Maggie Smith, Pauline Collins, Sir Tom Courtenay & Billy Connolly, which is currently in production & will be released later in 2012.


Future engagements include, guest coach with the Danish Radio Choir, and teaching and wokrshops in Florida, Berlin, Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore & Hong Kong & Haarlam Netherlands & will return to Tokyo in both Spring and Autumn of 2012.
