Experienced teachers are well aware of the crucial role that the tongue plays in effective diction but many are less aware of its importance in two other core vocal skills: accessing the entire range and controlling acoustics.
Tension in the tongue musculature is the cause of many vocal problems but the lack of sensation in the tongue root in particular can make dealing with this tension extremely difficult. Knowing what to do once the problem has been correctly identified is another skill.
This day will identify common problems for which the tongue is directly responsible and offer practical help in overcoming these in a variety of commonly encountered situations from the teaching studio to the rehearsal room and differing performance environments.
Attention will also be given to the importance of speech training for both speaking and singing.
Topics covered to include:
- Review of anatomy of the tongue
- Tongue tension and its effect on vocal function
- Why vowel modification is a problem (and unnecessary)
- Unique insights offered by Estill Voice Training
- Exercises and practise
- Examples and performance application
